Like the death of Tutankhamen, the “he said, she said” tale of Lance Armstrong and doping are something that will never be answered.
This was confirmed yesterday when it was announced that a Grand Jury conducted in relation to whether Armstrong had taken drugs in order to win those seven Tour de Frances.
Over the years, and what comes inevitably with a cyclist winning a stage or the entire tour comes the speculation of whether they had assistance (other than from their Director Sportifs).
Armstrong has been under intense scrutiny since his relationship with Dr Michele Ferrari (a man who has dealt with riders who have taken drugs during the cycling season) was revealed.
Personally I am happy that the case is closed because it placed a cloud over cycling but because it is closed does not guarantee that it will not be a matter not discussed.
Having the case closed is like saying it was inconclusive, and like many things in life will be persistently questioned with or without an affirmative decision.
