It seems terribly foreign to be watching the television at
night and an ad that takes you by surprise comes on, and no, it was not the
dancing tongue that got me all shook up.
Rather it was an ad about bananas.
Obviously, the advert was about promoting the fruit that
makes a great smoothie as it does a standalone snack in the middle of the
night.
But since when did healthy food have the power, or the money
to have fun ads like this one?
Weren’t they reserved for all the giant take-away places
that persuade you out from the pool to be eating a meal swimming in grease?
Don’t get me wrong, I reckon it’s a good move. But when the
ad is on at 9ish who is it really going to influence? Adults and teenagers are
far too stubborn to change their dietary requirements or to be hit by a
(natural) case of (TV induced) munchies.
I wonder if the ad is on at earlier times. Kids, I could
imagine would be influenced a little, because B1 and B2 will not encourage
fruit consumption rather the opposite, and can you blame the kids in that? Who’d
want to eat Australia’s version of Bert and Ernie?
It was a fun ad, quirky music, and a clear message, and
perhaps a little refreshing to see, that healthy food can get a say in
advertising consumption.
Keep it coming bananas, apples and any other fruit!
