If you’re a girl in puberty then apparently you have body hang-ups
that border of meteoric.
So when did it become stereotypical to have low self esteem?
There has been a movement towards it, I think but in reality
every girl has a hang up about their body, one day a month or every few days but
not everyone is consumed by it.
Sure, girls see magazines and sure, we wish we could look
that good in a dress or do our make up the same way that celebrities wear their
makeup.
It is inevitable that it happens but why is there a
misconception that every girl has low self esteem is rubbish, yes we have
moments but those moments do not go on forever and ever.
But what makes me laugh is the new modelling style, included
in Fashion Week in
Melbourne using “real people” with the organisers advocating
that these models are different; yes they are but do we need to make a point of
it? It emphasises their difference and thus, making those with similar
attributes feel also different, so whether this fixes body image perception in
society is another thing.
But back to my original point about body image concerns
increasing to the point that teenage girls are stereotyped with self esteem
concerns is kind of ridiculous.
We focus on the individual in society yet stereotype to the
collective, causing generalisation.
What do you think?
