An American/European Sport

If Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong didn’t  put the nail in the coffin to Americanise a traditionally European sport, then this new revelation well and truly has.

The announcement came today; Team Radio-shack and Team Leopard Trek are to merge for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Making the new team of Radio-shack Nissan Trek.

So essentially, two of the biggest teams are joining next season.

Team Radio-shack which Armstrong has shares in, hosts some formidable talent including Amgen Tour of California 2011 winner; Chris Horner, as well as rising talent Jani Brajkovic.

On the Leopard Trek side there are the brothers Schleck, Jens Voigt, Fabian Cancellara and there are others!

So to imagine the two combining will be like a super-super team.
The team will go up against another American based team, and team of defending champion Cadel Evans, Team BMC. This is also signing a formidable squad to defend Evans’ title. The names so far include Thor Hushovd, Philippe Gilbert, as well as rising climber and youngster Tejay Van Garderen.

Looks like the showdown between the American teams in the European sport. Bring it on!
