While Australian tennis is not faring as well as it should,
the same cannot be said for cycling with Australia picking up two gold and one
bronze medal on the first day of racing.
The first gold medal and Rainbow Jersey for Australia came
with Jessica Allen, in the Junior Women’s time trial. She set a blistering
tempo to secure the rainbow jersey, entering as the number one seed.
Later that night (or day, if you were in Copenhagen) rising
star Luke Durbridge (also a number one seed in his division) claimed gold in
the U23 Men’s time trial while fellow compatriot Michael Hepburn received a
bronze medal.
With three medals, and
two rainbow Jersey’ s to Australia’s name it seems that the squad is off
to a flyer of a start, and illustrates the quality of rising riders, both
female and male.
Congratulations goes out the Jessica Allen and Luke
Durbridge.
