Is politics all about personality?

I wonder, is politics actually just about policy anymore?

In a world of twitter whereby the media and the people have the ability to get relatively closer to politicians who use (and can be bothered) to search their names, it seems that the emphasis is not on their decisions, on the legislation passed or even on the meetings that they attend.

Rather, the focus is on the hair, they’re glasses, the type of swimsuit that they wear (Speedo’s anyone?) and whether or not they look like former Prime Minister’s.

Sure, that’s the superficial side of it, but to be honest, how many articles have you seen about the persona and the private life of the politicians?

The public demand to know more about the politician, and I don’t blame anyone for this, for after all they are representing the people.

But at what extent does personality override the need for policy information? How many pages are devoted to really informing the public?

Does this mean that we as a political nation are dumbed down?

So my question, readers, is whether politics today is all about personality?
