Suspicious Minds

If there is not s0me incarnation of a scandal in Australian politics, then it is not our parliament.

Over and over we have the opposition led at the helm by Tony Abbott crying wolf of another scandal, another effort to derail the Gillard, or Rudd government (remember Ute-gate? Sheesh).

And the same applied to the Australian Labor Party when they were in the opposition.

Seems that scandal and proclaiming that the other has done a great disservice to the voters who trusted them, is about as ingrained in our political system as, well,  women taking their time in the bathroom getting ready. It practically seems normal to have what is essentially the tabloidization of politics.

In recent days and weeks a new scandal has cropped up, much to the delight of the coalition, for each time I see them on the media (don’t tell me they’re concerned for the public here, it’s all political politics and power) the appear as the cat who has got the cream or the uni student proudly doing his walk of shame in the morning after.

The MP Craig Thomson has allegedly used (or misused) a union credit card to fulfil pleasurable nights with escorts.

Now the Abbott and co are calling for his head to roll to which would lead to a by-election and could potentially change the structure of the lower house, as we are currently in a minority government.

As article after article filters out into the public sphere,  and the story becomes larger than life with a random shovel showing up on a doorstep and now confirmation of missing documents as well as police getting closer to opening an investigation with Mr Thomson, it seems like it is getting clearer to how this will end.

Though, I could be wrong.

Thoughts?
