The Self Serving Registers

 We’ve got ourselves a bit of change going in the humble supermarket these days.

Self serving registers.

When we went from regular registers, to express checkouts we now have the innovation of both, sans checkout chick.

In the country they are just coming in, in Canberra they’ve been here for quite a while and to be honest, they’re pretty great.

Some people claim it will lose jobs and sure it might, but really no-one from Coles has lost a job that I’ve noticed at least.

The registers are twice as quick, no waiting in line for me!

Though they do have some pitfalls.

These registers are essentially for a quick shop, not the big ass weekly family shop and it only has certain cash amounts to draw out from debit whereas at the register (with a human) you can pick any amount; abstract or not.

The way supermarket has it now; a mix of checkout and self serving is, at the moment a very good mix.

Let’s hope for the swinging shoppers ( those who shop from supermarket from supermarket in order to get the best specials) that this mix stays this way.
