The America's Cup of the 21st Century

Cadel Evans has returned from Europe to rapturous applause. But what is this entire hubbub that has changed the conversation at the water- cooler really about?

Well, Cadel Evans has won the greatest race of them all, Le Tour De France and in doing so has become the first Australian to wear the yellow into Paris.

So as the champion comes home to his native country it was inevitable that celebrations would, and will occur.

Tomorrow Evans will be subjected to a CBD parade around Melbourne where fans are expected to “yell for Cadel” and show their support for the rider who are a few attempts and a few close calls has overcome this to claim the top prize.

Who knew the words “about bloody time” could be any sweeter for the rejoicing Aussie fans.

Evans’ win has meant that the 2011 tour de France is like the America’s cup of the 80’s except, no-one here got a day off this time.
And while the tour is over, the arrival of the champion back into his homeland means to celebrate again, and why not?

The tour only happens once a year, and who knows when another Aussie will come up and win but one thing is for sure, it won’t be like this again.

You can watch the live coverage of the parade on SBS one today at 12pm
