The Missing Macaroon

A disconnect between Australia’s take on French food has occurred.

In the country, I walk into the “patisserie” which was lovely no less, but bewildered me when I asked for a macaroon- a delicious biscuit that I will never attempt to make for fear I will inadvertently turn myself off it.

Expecting the elegant and bright biscuit I have to come to love and crave, instant I see a muffin more shaped to the size of Everest. One of two thing had happened; I’d either been warped into a parallel land when macaroons resemble muffins, or things are named differently. Though my imagination begs to differ, I’d like to consider that it was the latter.

Through hunger I bought the “macaroon” which turned out to be a piled high coconut slice in tin foil. Though delicious it was not as expected as I wanted it to be.

The quest for the missing macaroon continues....
