In youth, liking the obscure made one seem like a hipster (and a little pretentious on the side) but what happens if that thing, lets ay cycling rises in popularity and slowly moves to commercialisation?
What is a fan to do? On one had there is the desire for cycling to become even more popular and to share this sport with all, for everyone to reap the rewards. Besides, the “I told you so” never gets old when you catch family members in the act of watching a race.
But on the other, the obscurity and individuality that applies to admiring cycling is the source of what makes you unique, to like something that everyone else does, does that have the same ring to it?
I want cycling to broaden its fan-base, as all spectators do, but like when keeping that chocolate hidden in the cupboard, it is comforting to know that something has remained small, eclectic and nominates yourself in the quirky stakes.
A fan’s conundrum, is cycling better to be commercialised?
