Glee Cap "On My Way"

The midseason finale of Glee’s third season “On My Way” brought a lot more than the Regionals rivalry- and competition between The Warblers and New Directions.

The episode was distinctly different than in the past, and instead of a sugary sweet tone even in character’s despair,  it has been replaced in this episode by a sober image and this is not at all an indicator that Glee is dwindling- its merely growing up.

the show began with blackmail from one diva to another with Warbler Sebastian demanding that Rachel abandon the Regionals competition otherwise a terribly photo shopped image of a supposedly naked Finn would be distributed to the internet (seriously, what does Dalton Academy teach apart from singing in A Capella type groups?)

however this is the mere appetiser to the meatier issues addressed by this episode  with it being discovered- shockingly so, in the first minutes that Dave Karofsky has been discovered at his new school for his homosexuality. The result is apparent to all and he has been met with ostracism and cyber bullying appalling to all. The much teased cliff hanger comes when Karofsky (portrayed by a brilliant, but underrated cast member Max Adler) attempts suicide. It is not out of the question to consider this one of the most heartbreaking sequences of Glee history.

The actions taken by Karofsky sets the pace for the rest of the episode with it provoking Rachel to beg Finn to marry her this Saturday after Regionals because life is simply too short to wait.

A second poignant scene is that between Sebastian and those he has taunted at McKinley; including Kurt, Blaine, Santana and Brittany. His apology to them and reflection of his impact on Karofsky makes for a touching scene, and is enjoyable to see another element of a once two dimensional narcissistic Sebastian.

The switch from sombre to inspiring begins as the Regionals competition heats up with the Warblers. While I thought they were brilliant, their loss to the New Directions was justified after the Trouble tones Rendition of Whatever Kills You (Stronger).

Time for the wedding, and finally, the comedic talent of Hiram and Leroy Berry (played by Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell respectively) is put to good use, as they provide the nervous banter of trying to prevent the wedding of Finchel from going ahead.

Interwoven in this is Quinn. Her storyline and redemption to the Cheerios is granted by a pregnant Sue Sylvester and she makes peace with Rachel and accepts a marriage invitation.

On the way to the wedding, Rachel is texting Quinn (driving).... I think we can all tell what happens. The shw ends on this accident and it is not revealed what is of Quinn's fate.

Bidding you adieu until the return of Glee in 7 weeks!
