Contador's plight gets support from high places

The verdict that lead to Tour de France winner Alberto Contador’s suspension has today garnered support from both his home country and a cycling legend declaring it a sombre day for the sport.

Eddy Merckx, a Belgian rider better known for his championing of Le Grand Boucle (The Big Loop, as it is fondly known by) declared that the verdict was unfair to Contador considering the amount of substance found in his system.

They go zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero you can always find something in every body at that point.”

Merckx went on further to say that the ruling would adversely affect the popularity of cycling.

What do you think of the affair? Will Contador’s suspension help or hinder the sport?
