A film that excites or makes us cry may be emotionally manipulating but is it the true measure of a good, quality film?
I’d like to consider it is a factor, but there is perhaps a more potent factor in what makes a movie good as opposed to merely floating along and watching the film.
It is inevitable that when we watch a film we consider what WE want to happen to the main character, and sometimes by the end of the movie we wish that storyline had left them dead or alive.
A good film, however changes how we want the character to end up, and instead of wanting them to be one way, we root for them to survive etc.
