As another year passes, the stereotype and expectation for the school leaver to join his or her friends for a week filled with boozy nights and noise that could only be silenced by leaving the premises that is well known as Schoolies poses to me the question of why it is needed.
After all, don’t most teenagers piss it up through nearly every 18th birthday party during their final year?
And don’t they all hang out together anyway?
I understand the notion that it is their first real holiday away from their parents, but couldn’t it be done while still remembering it?
I see that Schoolies, yes it happens, is merely an expectation weighed upon young people, and why does there have to be this belief when leaving school is a varied experience for all?
