What's the deal with Kiwi's?

Don’t you find it ironic that Kiwi Fruit (Kiwi connoting to New Zealand) come in green and gold varieties?

But I also find it odd to why the humble Kiwi got its name in the first place, if it is from N.Z why didn’t they give it that name?

Perhaps it represents the bird of the same name, being brown and furry.

I love a good kiwi (the fruit, not the man... wouldn’t know there guys!) great for brekkie or an afternoon delight.

Actually, I might go and get myself one right now!
