Just as I talk ab0ut one golden cyclist in Robbie McEwen, news of another comes about.
Today it was announced that Anna Meares will be honoured, and inducted into the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) “Best of the Best” hall of fame.
So what has Ms Meares achieved in her stellar track career?
Where do I start?
By the end of the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics she was wearing more than the good old green and gold, having won the gold medal in the 500 metre time trial sprint. She also won bronze at that Olympics for the 200 metre sprint.
But also in 2004 she was crowned the Time Trial World champion and claimed silver for the sprint.
But when it came to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi last year, she claimed three gold medals for the 500 metre Time Trial, Team sprint and the individual Sprint.
But Anna Meares is more than that, coming back from a broken neck, and from narrowly missing out qualifying, or trying to keep her bike up against opponents so aggressive that it tends to be illegal on track cycling... and that’s saying something!
So I’d like to congratulate Anna, not merely for the accolades, but for the tenacity that brought them there.
