Love All

Aside from football (AFL and Rugby) as well as Cricket, Tennis in the land of Oz would surely have to be a sport that the Australian spectator will fondly recall, whether it be tales tinged with that close match or of triumph.

So when Sam Stosur won the US Open in September this year, the victory was plastered across the pages in Newspapers and editions of news on the telly blasted her joyous occasion.

Apparently, however the match, against Serena Williams (the more formidable of the Williams sisters) was broadcast. At close to 6:30am on Channel Nine.

I was more than surprised to note that it was barely promoted and people, woh I know are tennis fans had no clue it was on either.

For a country priding itself on tennis and our ability/enthusiasm to support our stars and respect the opponents, it was clearly a farce to not promote the match up enough.
And from where I stand, and am aware of, no reason was given by Nine.

Not only for Aussies to support Sam, the promotion of the final would have possibly been a massive ratings coup, and really, I think quite a few would have watched, whether it be people going to work, mums with kids, or the eager Daily Red.

I love tennis, but I ponder about the coverage on free to air when an Australian is in A final that they don’t normally cover.
