Ian Thorpe; Ready to fail

There is no typo here, so in case you thought this title was meant to be “Ian Thorpe; ready to fly” you are indeed wrong.

A press conference with the onetime hottie and perennial champion of the pool is staging a comeback (not John Farnham-esque... yet.)

And I liked his attitude toward his next major race, he is prepared that it may go awry, that he may very well fail.

The way that I see it, one can only succeed if they are aware of both sides of the coin as it can flip either way, at any moment.

To presume success is to come to you, without acknowledging alternatives is just plain ignorance.

Thorpie’s response to the media attention is starkly refreshing in a sport where there is much bravado and cockiness as there is water.

I’ve always admired the gold medallist but now I’ve got a reason to like him even more.
