Book to Movie; and everything in between

Often a book to movie adaptation is suggested as being disastrous, but I wonder, is it always the case?

To be honest, I think it is love hate thing, you either like it or you don’t.

Mind you, there are varying extremes; some people like Harry Potter, and then they like Harry Potter cloaks and all.

One book to movie adaption that got up my nostrils the wrong way was Looking  for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta.

It was a book that I could not put down, stretching bed time out to the wee hours of the morning, causing me to almost forget to get off the bus at school.

But when I found out there was a DVD (I was a tad behind the eight ball when it comes to this book/movie adaptation) I was eager to watch it.

But with the book fresh in my mind, the placement of key events was twisted in the film to create a dramatic crux in the middle. I was not happy after watching it, brooding like Jim Stark or something.

But then tonight I watched it again, the film but this time my mind was clear, and could see why the events were rearranged.

So it brings me to the conclusion that you may not judge a book by a cover, when it comes to these adaptations, you can’t judge them on the first viewing.
