Next time, Australia

The final rubber of the Davis Cup round between Switzerland and Australia had it all,
including drama around the lighting as the match headed to dusk as well as what one may consider an emphatic Pat Rafter.

However through all of this, Australia lost and thus remains in the zonal group (Asia- Oceania) and not joining the world elite.

While the final match, singles between Stanislas Wawrinka and Lleyton Hewitt entertained on the court with sheer displays of tennis as well as off the court when Pat Rafter claimed that the officials were making “shit” up about the lighting conditions.

The match had to be continued today with scores in the fifth set at 5-3, Wawrinka’s favour.

It did not take long for the Swiss to get the points needed to claim the match.
Ultimately it is disappointing for Australia, that has an illustrious history on the court to not be back in the world group, but as I hope, there’s is always next year!

And with only really one rising star on the squad (Bernard Tomic) Australia is going to need a little bit more firepower (not just relying on one player) if they wish to do well and reclaim the Davis Cup.

Congratulation must go out to the Swiss squad for getting back to the World group
