Prime Minister Julia Gillard has come under fire recently, and
for just cause, and no it’s not about her fashion sense.
After the decision was made by the High Court to consider
the Malaysia Solution invalid and thus, the Government cannot proceed with it,
Our Prime Minister in a moment of irrationality proclaimed that the decision
turned law in Australia “on its head”.
I’m fine with critiquing the political institutions however
to do so when it does not suit to your deals is hardly the manner of which I’d
like my Prime Minister act in.
Shouldn't we respect the decisions involved? After all we
should be thankful that we have a system of checks and balances otherwise, if
the deal had gone ahead, there would have been quite a number of red faces
involved when it breached Human Rights etc. Etc.
For someone who is often so tight, and in control, it was an
insult of the highest manner, to claim that the High Court decision was “deeply
disappointing”.
Perhaps I should not be so harsh on a woman, a prime
Minister whose politics is constantly criticised and if speculation is to be
believed, leadership in peril.
But the point, regardless of circumstance, is that Gillard
should criticise what is key to our democracy, particularly when it doesn’t
suit, save it for off the record, not on.
