The Beauty and the Brownlow

Girls love dresses, the same way a cat loves milk so when the blue carpet of the Brownlow Medal (AFL’s version of the Dally M for the uninitiated) we swarm like flies to the TV and stare ardently... ready to criticise more than we do about that drunk girl last night.

Oh, and by the way ladies, Dane Swan won the medal, just in case, you know, you turned the TV off as soon as the medal count was on.

So what was the fashion like on footy’s night of nights? The night that eclipses Grand Final day (probably because we remember this one... after all it is a Monday night).
I was surprised by what the Herald Sun deemed the best dressed. I’ve seen Horses with better blankets than what some of those women wore.

Let’s begin with Miss “I’m qualified as a speech pathologist but really, am a model” Rebecca Judd. Wearing a gold dress that looked more like a tribute to the Oscars (no, not her son... the other Oscar). Normally I like what she wears... but she really out did herself on this one, not that I can blame her, it’s sure is tough being a footballer’s wife.

And how about Miss “long term girlfriend of Gary Ablett Jnr” Lauren Phillips?  Last year, I loved her dress, heck, when I fleetingly fantasised about what dress I’d like to wear, her’s came to my mind... but this year, the fad with the beauty is over. Her dress, can be described in three words; silver, white and shapeless. Look, if the 1920’s are back, for god’s sake make the dresses go back up to the knee! It was a pretty terrible dress, draping and not shaping. Shame, I like her.

The standout trend of the night was colour, convincing the Daily Red that these already skinny women really were lollipops (I bet a few Footballers would take a lick and a suck of that).

But most of the colour reminded me of an Acid high (or so I am told) too much colour! And it turned out that the best dresses, the ones that got me going, were the nude and neutral colours.

So in the past, I’ve found more best dressed than worst but I suppose when you have an androgynous (and absolutely stunning) model walking the walk, fashion and the lists of best and worst dressed will be turned on their head.
There you have it, the worst usurps the best dressed.

Until next year!
