Love Music? Love
your iPod, the very one that cost an obscene amount? Well like many people, the
Daily Red is the same way but for all you music lovers out there don’t think
that the prices end at iTunes vouchers and buying the iPod itself, far from it,
there is also the earphones.
I suppose you
could say that the iPod is a like a pet really, it has ongoing costs and to
satisfy you, and keep the rest of the bus from judging your distinct style of
music, earphones are a necessity.
But wherein lays
the irony? It comes from the short life span of earphones, we all have seen
this happen, you buy a pair, whether cheap or as expensive as an iPod, first, a
crackling noise comes about, second, little electric shocks nibble at your ear;
like the electronic version of tics, and thirdly one earphone carks it, and for
the budget conscious out there, this is the moment we all realise our true
potential as... Human antennas; constantly moving around to get another hit of
music, of our favourite tunes... then they finally die.
The life of an
earphone is an arduous one, a short one and one that is a slave to present
music to please the ear.
For too long
have I seen many a good earphone go, cheap ones, expensive ones and even Apple ones?
All of which
cause a sense of annoyance, of being plainly pissed off, because if you’re like
me, you probably bought them in the last couple of days.
I hate it; I
truly do, to find a good set of earphones is about as possible as finding a
unicorn down the street.
I finally find a
good pair and what happens? They prematurely die, too young and far too soon
for my liking, and you realise its bad when the earphones can’t even play “only
the good die young” to commiserate their life, a life devoted to giving you
pleasure.
But here’s
another thing, the price. Has anyone seen the prices, earphones are the new
staple to have the new designers heck even lady gaga has endorsed a pair that
retail for about 80 to 100 bucks a pop.
Now if earphones
have such a lifespan, why fork out the dosh when they are going to be pushing
up the daisies so very soon?
And I bet you
all ten bucks that it’s a moneymaking scheme, the fall of earphones; you see
once upon a time they used to be of a
quality, and nowadays when moneymaking in music is declining due to piracy and
“alternatively acquired” materials, how else to make money but to reduce the
quality of earphones hence making us buy more, and more.
It’s a
roundabout of emotion, being recycled over and over nothing pisses me off more
than walking the dog in silence, and I’m sure many of you will agree do you really
want to be going to the gym without music?
But on a
positive note and not to end this article sounding like a whinging pom because
I’d hate to do that to you all, dear readers, at least with the range of earphones out there
by this time next month I would have tried nearly all of them, and who said
taste-testing for the ears was bad for you?
