Daily Red in the City that always changes

You begin to know you live in a city when three things occur; there are protests, artists are drawing their chalk art to the ground challenging perspective and three; the bookstore has a cafe.

There are plenty of other key elements to cities that are exclusive but if I were to name them all, I’d put the length of the 5th Harry Potter (Order of the Phoenix) to shame.

Yesterday I traversed my home city and with the sunshine beaming down it was difficult not to feel positive.

Walking across the road and seeing protesters come in rushes, the same way that in Melbourne people go to the Footy in the Saturday afternoon, with their placards in tow and t-shirts yelling statements towards Julia, it’s nice to see the odd protest or two coming up and becoming a major focus.

I live in the capital of Democracy, and of this nation and it was an interesting moment seeing the protest vans driving past claiming that “democracy was dead” however if these people have the ability to protest then is it really?

A great thing about being the city is also the fact of the niche stores, from where I’m from; niche stores only existed as the foreign food section in one of the aisles at Woollies or Coles.

But I digress.

The city with its art (that arguably only half makes sense, but that’s modern art for you) and buskers and mimes gives a splendid atmosphere.

Spending the day in the city and in the sun means to stroll around aimlessly, to find little stores and big ones as well, to see artists doing their thing but it’s mindboggling how on a Thursday night how it all changes and boy, does it change!

Thursdays mean drinking; where the booze hounds play with the pussy’s and vomit is the water feature of the night. It’s a lovely atmosphere, but somehow I think its only that way with beer goggles strapped on tightly.

One thing that strikes me is that while New York has a insomnia problem, It seems
Canberra is much like the Phantom of the Opera half mask, on aspect its beautiful and the other, couldn't be any more trashier.

Seems to me that Canberra has a new reputation to protest; A city that always changes.
