News at the moment celebrates- and rightfully so, promotes awareness of same sex relationships and public figures coming out for both themselves, and supporting the legalisation of marriagebetween same sex couples.
I understand the importance of public figures coming out, and this currently being deemed as news, but what example is this setting for the future?
At the moment, I see no problem as the public coming outs will allow readers who themselves might be homo or bi-sexual to embrace their sexuality- the same way their idols had.
But in the future, does emphasing that coming out is news actually going to enhancethe stigma, and further a separation between same sex, and straight couples?
If normalising this idea of homosexuality is the desired effect, then doesn’t the newsmedia by defining coming out as news, say otherwise?
