Wilkie stands by word

Member of Dennison Andrew Wilkie has withdrawn his support of backing the Gillard Government following their failure to agree on reforming poker machines and gambling.

Wilkie, as you might recall was a key player in which party formed the government in 2010 when a hung parliament occurred. You might also remember that he backed the Gillard led government on the premise that they would follow through with poker machine reform.

During the middle of last year Wilkie announced he would withdraw such backing of the government if the reforms had not gone through the parliamentary process by the deliverance of the federal budget in May 2012.

The implication for such an action is not dramatic as the government will not fall due to having a two vote advantage over the coalition.

However I ponder what the reaction will be in the media, and the people in the coming days- will it affect the Newspoll? Will it cause a backlash? And what will happen to Poker Reforms? And what about the credibility of the government?
