Do they really need to be together?

Sure, so Romeo and Juliet go together like vegemite and milk but do all food pairings have to be, or can their trysts be broken?

The other night I was eating pasta, delicious if I may add, but it did not fit the bill in terms of what you’d expect when it comes to pasta.

I did not have meat in it.

Now, that’s like saying Italy did not make pizza, or Shakespeare did not write all of his works (but that’s a whole other post!)

But you know what? It actually tastes a lot better, lighter, even allowing the sauce to fill my mouth, to savour without the fear that I have undercooked my mince due to impatience and could be food poisoned within a matter of hours.

To me, having pasta without the meat, it gives birth to a new sort of pasta, where the sauce is enveloped by the pasta.

Perhaps, it was never pasta and meat that got Italy going, but rather fettuccine and those damn irresistible tomatoes.
