How Long Can They Go: Talk Show Host Longevity

Rove McManus, many years ago was one of my favourite talk show hosts but whatever you call it, the moving of the times, or aging I’m not quite certain about whether the aussie comedian is in my top 5 of talk show hosts.

Which got me thinking, how long is the television life of a Talk Show host, and is it sustained or can it cope with changing of shows or a hiatus from the programme?

Sure Jay, Conan and David have lived their life on the screen and now, the generally don’t have the same edge (well, Conan is the exception). I mean, if Oprah can ridded of, why not these men? She lasted 25 years, feels like they’ve been there much, much longer.

Ellen DeGeneres would have to be the hot new host with an affability and warmth rarely seen by the talk-show host, I could watch her show any day!

But what if she changes the show, or changes shows? Will it be the same? I doubt it, a vibe is a vibe and therefore it is rare that an act or a host can be the same, or survive the change.

Readers, what do you think of talk show hosts? Who are the best, or the obnoxious, and who can stand the test of time with their show?
