The Swiss army knife of food

For each food there are plenty of uses however the food that takes the cake as being the most used food, or perhaps overexposed in meals beginning from appetisers right through to desserts is the loyal lemon.

Sour in taste it is what I’d like to call the Swiss Army Knife of food for its many uses. A lot of which are in desserts such as lemon and sugar pancakes, lem0n delicious, lemon tart and the list goes on and on and on.

In dishes such as this it is simply a must to applaud the lemon, who knew that something that makes the throat tingle and eyes water would be later described as delectable.

Plus in the main meals the yellow citrus also makes an appearance; my personal favourite is the lemon and oregano chicken. First grilling the chicken then smothering it in lemon juice and freshly chopped oregano allows for a pleasurable meal, as the sourness of citrus combines with that chicken-y flavour as well as complementing but not overshadowing the strength of the flavour that comes with oregano which smells as good as it tastes.

Like a Swiss army knife a lemon has many odd bits and bobs each suiting a different purpose, for instance the zest has a different use to the juice.

Just goes to show, even the sourest things have a place on the plate.
