Rise of the New Chip

Food is like the merry go round that on each circuit, changes its appearance, it is as if the trends that come with food change quicker than a Facebook status.

In the land of saturated fats there is the loyal chip. Immortalised to sporting events and even brands coming out with “state of origin” chips, yes because unhealthy goes oh so well with sport.

However from the 90’s there has been quite a transformation, back then you’d eat the chip to get to the Tazo disc or Pokémon mini holographic cards, back then, there wasn’t really a concern with Heart Foundation Ticks or obesity either.

However today long gone are novelty flavours rather a new shape of the chip is emerging that I’d like to call the ripple chip; seen in the Grain Waves packets they have appeared in rip-off brands as well.

While the age of Meat Pie chips and competition for a new flavours are practically over, even these slices of fat are trying to move with the times and be health conscious.

I suppose there is a paradox for everyone.

However the chip has taken a bit of a facelift in doing so, but unlike Shane Warne’s reincarnation as a cosmetic loving metro, chips look good doing it, a little stylish perhaps.
